For once, I wholly agree with you on this. Though on the safe side, I would like Honoka and Takane to be the ship-gunner and XO respectively. We can't have her firing a Sunbuster cannon and obliterate the solar system at a whim, or enslave thousands of pretty girls to work on her ship and keep her happy.
This would certainly make great plot material and an excuse for fanservice. Sunrise, are you listening?
We might have an upgrade for all the mecha in the later series. Wygar might get a really big gun, and Itsuki might get Hellscythe's stuff.
