Layfon wasn't just good, he was literally one of the best fighters in the world since he was 9 years old(or 10, can't remember details). But he fought only because it paid well, and helped maintained the orphanage that he grew up in. To him, fighting has always been just a job. He's not a hero, he's not a winner. From what you said I can see that Layfon was really a hero and super genius....

since he risked his life to gain money so he could help to keep the orphanage working... so he was not doing it for his own desire of gaining profit by fighting and spend that money on himself but he was fighting for other children without parents...so they have food,cloths,books so In my eyes Layfon was a hero

After maybe loseing to someone in fight he lost self confidance since the thing he was good at and that helped him to help other children was not enought becouse he lost........hmmm I wonder if the majesty know what for Layfon was fighting ^^ did he/she know that the money that Layfon worked for were spended at the orphanage.....since it could be little cold from that majesty to kick him out becouse he lost once (normaly that kind of things make people stronger) it's like abondoning the orphanage kids in the same time.

Heh I wonder if the news of Layfon's power will spread to other towns... ^^ since there is a possibility that the news will come to Grendan xD and people who thinked that he droped fighting might get interested XD and so like in many animes/mangas we could expect transfer students ;] maybe people that we saw in ep1 fightign that monster..... that would be funny
