Well, the problem is that he does actually
say "Saber shouldn't fight because she's a girl" at one point. The impression I get from the VN is that that is more him desperately flailing for a excuse to prevent her fighting than genuine sexism (after all, the guy not only does housework but actively tries to
stop others doing it for him), but it doesn't come across like that in the anime.
