Wasn't the whole "must keep defeating enemies or something bad happens" already part of Kamen Rider back in Ryuki, as in the one Madoka is real similar to? The Ryuki Riders couldn't stop fighting once they contract, or else their own monster(s) get mad at them and might do something horrible.
Plus, Ryuki also had a "homeless and always eating" guy, Ouja/Asakura. Well, not
always eating, but the show tended to emphasize how he eats.
