Now IMHO I believe you would need to live in Japan for maybe a couple of years straight to be able to carry on a conversation in Japanese. Since I do not have any immediate plans to move there anytime soon that’s out of the question. All that being said I would like to find out from some of you translators out there is there anyway a person can learn spoken Japanese without taking college classes? I hope to be a translator for a fansub someday.

PS; i think i posted this in the wrong aread...
The only sure way is to take classes, but since you dont want to I would suggest reading manga in english and japanese several times. I have heard this works, but am no sure how well.
