Also, due to the fact that Einstein is alive, America still have the Technology and Resources edge. That is why Japan choose to stand neutral, albeit a bit leaning to US. But you have got a point there. In this fic, "White Night" just happened before Japan first attack - they try to get a piece of China when the table turned in favor of the Western, but the Communist Block striked first. And they gave NATO the cores is both a token of trust (the US fears Japan power), a mean to extract revenge and get their hand on Einstein's works.
Maybe I would made Madoka as Yuriko...
