Today's startup studios aren't really "new" (the industry is going through some reconfiguration, but it's just the same people - both business and creative folks - regrouping under different entities), so you can't always gauge pedigree or potential from the shows they've worked on. For instance, Hoods Entertainment is helmed by a veteran producer connected to plenty of talent, but from their initial projects, you'd wonder if they were some kind of porn company.
Anime financiers have long histories with studio producers, so they know who's capable of delivering.
