Not really the same.
The first game was... well, the first game.
Burst's story was like a remake of the first's story, following the basic outline the same, but generally changed for the better.
Gaiden hasn't even came out (for Vita-chan), but there are new characters, so I doubt it could be the same story.

Yep, new look. Stories, specials, those miscellaneous stuff added.
Characters section changed to have three hidden characters, but they are pretty predictable.

Not much. There are "bad ninjas" that work for people who do stuff that are typically considered "bad" and "good ninjas" that work in the shadow for the good of people, blabber about stuff that doesn't matter, and that this is the story of 5 girls at Hanzou of love(<---?) and bravery.
