Really, aside of everything I mentioned in the previous post, what would be the point of him being alive? Nothing whatsoever. It would just cheapen everything. The only reason why some people want him alive is because they like him so much they don't want to see him dead.

Well, it's not really a personal preference that they're not together because they're using each other as a replacement for Shun. And it's also made clear that they love each other and care about each other. If you think it's not romantic love... that's your interpretation, but given that Saki tells him she loves him, and they end up marrying and spending their life together and have a kid and all, I think at this point the question is moot. They're best friends, lovers and husband and wife, end of story.
