No, I'm pretty certain Hyougemono is simply a matter of differences in kana spelling before and after Japanese language reform. Since it's a historical anime, it intentionally uses old-fashioned spelling. It has nothing to do with "international versions" of titles.
This case baffles me, actually, because while I understand partially Japanese or all Japanese titles having official English translations (The World God Only Knows, Aria the Scarlet Ammo, etc.) I'm not sure why an English-as-katakana title would have a different English-as-English title. *shrug*
... did I mention I'm totally looking forward to this show?
