i dunno how it is shown in your software, but in mine (PS 6.0, pretty old i know, but it's enough to me ^^), fonts are separeted. the fonts which can use hiragana/katana/kanji and all are group "MS xx" (no in the common mass, but some fonts in their own category) and group "Arial Unicode MS" + the fonts below it. (this should be possible to anyone, since windows use theses fonts if you installed the asian pack from the languages, in the control panel)

if anyone can explain/confirm, it would be great ^^" (but whatever, it's finally fixed ! )

second edit : in fact, using these 2 groups of fonts allow only copy paste + roman chacter adding (letters, ponctuation. in fact, the whole ASCII) BUT you cannot use space weirdly -_- (in fact, it's pretty screwed... damn coding mess T_T ) the best way to use that thing is to put your text on a document (notepad for example) and simply copy paste in a new layer. (better than nothing)
I am actually pretty clueless on this sort of thing.

I simply installed the fonts, tried them and saw them working.

I have also tried several effects on some wallpapers and sigs, and everything seems to work fine so far. (Using Photoshop CS)
