Not the third season of the anime.
Not entirely sure what this is or what to expect. At first I thought this might be another rebroadcast of the animated series - as in 2016 in the months leading up to the theatrical release of "Kami no Ku" - but that may not be what this particular announcement is about. There is certainly more to it than that even if that is part of it...
As I understand this news ... There will be twelve weekly "programs" exclusively made for
NTV -to be broadcast on its exclusive "channel/broadcast time slot/block"
日本テレビAnichU - starting, approximately two hours after midnight, on Tuesday January 9, 2018 (01:59 Wednesday January 10) JST.
This 12 part series -with episodes of undetermined length -quite possibly within that 1 hour time period of AnichU - and exact nature unknown to me- has been created to celebrate the upcoming release of Chihayafuru: Musubi and to celebrate the 10th anniversary - the ten year serialisation run of the original manga. These twelve programs will involve cast members from the live action films.
One of the twelve episodes will include the first time TV broadcast of the OVA - the special episode footage from the DVD bundled with the special edition of manga volume 22, titled: 「わがみよにふる ながめせしまに」. This announcement has on second thought been moved to this season two thread, in part, for that reason.
Subject to change - stay tuned for more details. Feel free to correct or augment...

お久しぶりです - It has been a while, but today there was activity on the
TVアニメ「ちはやふる」 [TV Anime Chihayafuru] Twitter account. A confirmation message from NTV regarding the upcoming television specials to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the original series and the upcoming "Chihayafuru: Musubi" live action film.

The title in the summary of the
first special,「さくやこのはな」, indicates a repeat of Anime Season 1, Episode 1 - with a bit of time to spare in the program, based on the time-slot allocated: 2018年1月9日（火） 26時04分～26時39分. Sounds like a message from Suzu Hirose, recorded at Omi Jingu, was included in the broadcast... which also included a "digest" segment for the live action films.

January 17:
Episode 2 of the NTV specials included a message from Mio Yūki (Hanano Sumire) and the re-run of S1, E2. The animation episode once again followed by a mini documentary about the Live Action films. Preview scenes and behind the scenes footage as well as on-set interviews.
As before, these clips and stills from the films invite questions about the kimono each of the cast members is seen wearing. Were these garments found by the wardrobe department or perhaps created for their roles? Either way, it is interesting to wonder who selected them and ponder if the designs and particular patterns played any significant role in their selection process.

Patterns becoming familiar? Hayato Sano (Akihiro Tsukuba) delivered this week's message. He too did so standing in front of those familiar hanging scrolls. The re-run remained in sequence: S1, E3. February 7: Introducing himself as Arata Mackenyu, the actor for the role of Arata Wataya was picked to present this week's message about the upcoming Musubi film to the TV audience. The fifth episode of the animated series, in the fifth instalment of this program, was once more followed by a mini documentary about the live-ction films. Preview scenes from "Musubi", behind the scenes footage as well as on-set interviews from the production.
Looks like next week's instalment will break the sequence of re-runs from the animated series, probably set to jump ahead to the episode given the title ｢ゆくもかへるもわかれては」- Which is, a.o things, the title of anime Season 1, Episode 10.
