Like I've been saying, it should've been 24-25 eps, and should've been written by only one person (not necessarily Gen). I also would've liked a bit more tension and elements of danger, especially in the last few.
But the characters were still likeable. Despite her dearth of development, girls like Amy are part of the reason I got into anime in the first place, heh. (Not tsunderes.) Hopefully some of the OAV's might shed more light on her background. And in the end it stuck to its coming-of-age, finding-your-place message very well.
Plus as an American wearied by so many years of war, I'm also pleased to see a show that doesn't emphasize the need for a heroic sacrifice for once (at least not by the human...sorry).
Overall I'd have to say 7.7/10. Needed perhaps a bit less black and white too, but I don't get how some people can call it the worst show of the year.
