People shouldn't expect Dog Days to be the next Nanoha. It's not like they're trying to replace Nanoha with Dog Days either. Tsuzuki and Seven Arcs are allowed to produce other works.
Dog Days is harmless. It's simple, straight forward, and takes itself lightly. For example, war is a glorified friendly sport rather than a gritty battle to the death. It aims to entertain and so far hasn't gone beyond that, and that's perfectly fine. I like the voice cast and the character designs are nice
doujin fodder so there's not much keeping me away. Granted I admit there's not much to hook people either.
