It looks like the message was quite misleading:
Much like Higurashi, each new episode of Umineko has the previous one within it.
Hence, buying Episode 2 will also grant you the first episode.
We actually translated the first 3 chapters of
Episode 1, Legend of the golden witch.
However, the patch itself does not work with the Episode 1 (game).
Much like higurashi, keeps things in order, do not skip the chapters, it isn't recommended at all.
