Can you show us the code you're using that's giving you the fade effects? When I do what Kinjo describes, it gives me the correct effects every time, so unless you've done something different I can't imagine why it wouldn't work for you.
As for the title screen, no there is nothing in his tutorial that talks about that. It shouldn't be too difficult to figure out if you can think a little creatively, I more or less figured everything out when I experimented with it, but I wouldn't be able to tell you how to make one without sitting down and actually finishing mine...which won't be a for a long time, at the rate I've been going
