Which version did you watch? Deculture, broadcast or Yakk Deculture? It's always shocking to see how much the broadcast version lacks compared to the other two.
Spoiler for For length and all three versions:
I think Sheryl's real personality already shines with the way she reacts to Frontier after waking up. The first time I saw the episode, I completely missed that part. Granted, she was the only person who left a real impression on me other than Michel, due to their attitudes.
I remember Alto for his sparkle and Ranka looking nice when her hair looked blue instead of green.
Looking at it now, Sheryl had fold-sickness and a jetleg, then got pissed that amatures were hired to perform at her concert. This is understandable, even professional stunt pilots can cause accidents IRL, and Sheryl ended up being right since Alto knocked her off stage when he wanted to show off, and we see his intent to do something stupid the first time he appears and talks about how he could do more, when everyone else is taking the practice seriously. What amazed Alto was how she got her act together imidietaly and I liked how Michel got the message too and directed the rest of the group to play along.
I still feel sorry for Ranka's phone.
And I prefer Megumi's voice now then how she used to sound back in the day, but there is something charming about Ranka's voice sounding so... normal.
The scene that bothered me when it came to Sheryl's personality was when Alto questions her for leaving and she says that pro's should be left to take care of the situation. Instead of understanding what Sheryl means, he goes off flying, disctracts Gilliam, who ends up getting caught and killed by the Vajra. It's also worth noting the reason they were taking special care of Sheryl was mentioned right at the beginning. It's not something she asked for, but she is a star from another colony and if anything happened to her on Frontier there would be consequences. She knows this and complies, staying there would not do anyone any good.
The credits are also interesting, all three have Sheryl listed before Ranka, even though Ranka seems to be more of a focus in the Deculture Edition and even sings the endings to two of them. This is one of the reasons I don't get why people thought Sheryl was not meant to be a lead character, the three are even seperated from the rest in the listing to point this out.
