Aside from the battle with Hashmal, it seems McGillis is starting to crave for power as demonstrated by Mika. Till now, we never had a confirmation if he does have AV system implanted but considering how he might be using Bael...
Also that last scene is quite a powerful, emotional one. Further drives the point that Mika might not survive till the end. For an apparent brute, he's quite smart to be able to figure out his symbiotic relationship with Barbatos. To be honest I almost teared up at that scene between him and Orga.
