To be fair, they are up against a creature that not even the man who invented ninjutsu, Sage of Six Paths, could get rid of on a permanent basis. Added to that, they are up against a resurrected and powered-up Madara, who along with Hashirama, built the foundation of the current ninja world. Course, that still doesn't change that Naruto had to protect their collective asses since apparently the word "dodging" has been removed from their memory.
