As for suggestions, i concur that there arent anime similar to Kenichi but if you are looking for martial arts you can check on
Shura no Toki but if you want a perfect combination of action / comedy then i will recommed
Full Metal Panic.
And if you only watched the anime of Kenichi then i highly suggest you read the manga which continues with the story.

hmm is this series from 1988?? The summary from Animenews was a bit confusing but it sounds interesting.... hope the animation quality isnt too bad though.
