Amati didn't cheat, since he and Lawrence agreed on the terms. If Lawrence wasn't satisfied with the horses, he could have refused the deal. So, no, it's not precisely what we, viewer, have seen in ep4. Is it so surprising that they hammered a few details off camera?

Besides, now Lawrence can sell the horses, or try to trade them against pyrite, or just consider lucky to have more cash than before he started. It's not like everything has to go his way.
