No he didn't cry, but he was literally stunned for quite some time. Was Hattori fourth of entire school or his level? I can't remember. But he seems really weak to be 4th.
But then, he was disadvantaged right at the start for 2 reasons. First, IIRC, Hattori's raw power is not that great and he's better at team fights than solos. Second, having trained under Kokonoe Yakumo for several years, Tatsuya moves at inhuman speed without the need to use magic. He practically moved out of the coordinates (like flash-step) which Hattori's CAD locked on before he could even activate his magic, or something like that. Any Magician would have been surprised to see someone move like that without activating a psion field. I already forgot most of the details, but I think that ownage was also mostly due to the CAD Tatsuya was using, since I briefly recall a large chunk of CAD gibberish after that and Azusa going "kira kira (sparkle sparkle)" at it. (Azusa is a CAD-Otaku and the secretary of the student council)
Tatsuya's 'wide area interference' was only better explored at start of v2, after he practically disabled the entire Kendo club with nearly no one getting a scratch, except for Jumonji and Sayaka who were just watching from the sidelines. But the problem is, before you can understand this part, you need to understand how influence/territory works during Psion channeling, which will be briefly explained in the next chapter of the LN and manga.
Again, I cannot remember the details, as the details of the magic mechanics are way too many, and very hard to understand. Even if I read it in my native language, it'll probably give me a headache. I might get some stuff wrong, but I briefly recall Tatsuya's "wide area interference" involves certain theories on reverse channeling, something to do with how the fields of the influence/territory interact. The funny thing is, normally, such an ability requires some special tool which is rare (or expensive to construct, I can't remember) and only the Military has it, and yet, Tatsuya is able to come up with original theories to employ "influence/territory interference/disruption" without the need for that tool.
