I downloaded the first ep for a look this evening, and found it good enough that I had the next two on queue pretty much immediately. Thanks to whichever seeder it was that had a 500 kb/s upload - I could get used to downloading an ep every 4 minutes...
Spoiler for Episodes 1-3:
Episode one was kind of slow, though not as bad as I feared when I read the blurb on animenfo. Have to feel sorry for Uchida for the crappy town he's gotten posted to - no family restaurants? No convenience stores? And everything closes early, to boot? And don't forget the misplaced futon - I don't envy him for having to sleep in a rolled up curtain... (I've slept in worse, but I wouldn't want to repeat the experience.) I found the CG animation somewhat strange - the texturing on the fighters was a little too metallic, as opposed to flat grays (only F-22 fighters have that kind of color...), though the detal level of the 3D models was extreme...
The second episode was good too, though somewhat unrealistic in the way Uchida behaved. He made a lot of rookie mistakes - things that should have been drummed out of him in training. The CG was absolutely lovely - makes me want to see if I can spare the money for a model of the helicopter...
The third episode was painful, like the title says - not quality-wise, just thematically. I'll tell you flat out, I expected the girl to die the moment she said her insides hurt - especially taking the title into account. But with all the hoops they jumped trying to get her to the hospital in time... I had the shipboard landing figured out pretty much the second they started talking about having to return, too. And the improvised runway at the hospital was beautiful - I almost dared hope right then...
About the funeral home guy - if that had been me, the guy would have qualified for is own services when I was done. Or at least wish he did. Effing vultures.
Anyway, lovely show, will follow the subs...and hope that it's not *all* going to be this sad...
