Truth speaking they had already before this issue. At least in the upper class segments.
And honestly, the Chinese do not particularly like the Germans because they sometimes have this nasty habit to interfere with China's interal affairs (e.g. they regard the Dalai Lama as such).
However, there is even less "love" for the Japanese. So, whenever a politcal decission over equipement acquisition boils down to a... either take a Japanese or a German product/design (for technical reasons), you can bet they will choose the german product over the japanese one.
Even if they procure both, like in the case of the high speed train deals. They will buy the newest generation trains based on german design to be their flagship fleet and an technically older generation of trains based on japanese design (even if both newest generation designs are basically on par).
The effect of such behaviour (nevermind the nationalistic touch to it) is that it becomes like a state run advertisement campaign for non-japanese products.
