But Shinn didn't cheat, he doesn't need that to beat a washed up has been like Destiny Kira. The fight was completely one sided, all Kira could managed was using his Plot Armor to escape a near death situation and pretend that the Freedom getting smashed was what he planned all along.
Shame really, he used to love that thing to death in SEED and wouldn't even let anyone touch it but in Destiny he doesn't even blink or shed a tear for it.
