Now then ... where to start. They changed some things a fair bit, and some important details seem to have been lost in transition. One of the notable ones was: Kakeru picking up Raikiri in the clubroom against Misuzu, i was literally left with a "huh...?" clouding my mind for a few seconds. Normally, no one but Misuzu can
touch these swords - there is a reason for it, She knows it, and in the original Kakeru found said fact out the hard way when he reached out for the then-dropped sword in a moment of despair. I wonder what has happened to that particular plot point ... well, with some chance they might still go back to it, so i will say no further than this, though that seems unlikely since Kakeru was able to touch Raikiri like any usual sword.
As for Ira ... color me stomped with what they did here. The encounter itself was quite reworked (unless my memory is failing me bigtime, it was a group brawl against the two knights together), and the big difference - Ira did
not die here! He got injured, yes, but also not in the way it happened here. I was borderline jaw-dropping out of sheer bewilderment when Kakeru did his cool-looking evasions and ninjatastic somersault (since when did he learn to move like that ...) resulting in Ira's chop-up from behind. Originally him wounding Ira was more of a lucky accident that neither expected, not the calm-calculated move it seemed here.
Yes, he picked up a sword and positioned himself between the charging (charging, not dawdling) Ira and Yuka, (Because the "good guy" team was not doing very well at all against Ira and Invidia) pointed Raikiri in the knight's general direction and stood there with shaky hands and legs, obviously not expecting to live to tell the tale. Then his eye kicked in, and in the heat of the moment he repositioned himself slightly at the last split second, more instinctively than consciously according to what he saw, and Ira ended up stumbling on to the sword (with his eye at that - yep, he became cyclops
) as a matter of course of his charge. Which was an equally big WTF moment for everyone. And they changed that to Kakeru performing some acrobatic feats and slicing up Ira with Raikiri that glowed yellow for some reason (They must have thought it went well with the eye
).
Regardless, originally Ira got injured, but lived to fight another day. I must confess my memory is a bit hazy about how, exactly, he perished in the end, but i believe it was in a 1 on 1 with Misuzu, whom he faced off against many times in the story.
Also, Kukuri finally makes an appearance, about time i say
Originally she is the first to join the gang, and played a big part in the battle against Gura.
