Since Hashirama is still in the story it should be explained how he died, he was far stronger than any other ninja who existed in his time, even stronger than an entire village, and has automatic self healing ability too which should rule out some random illnesses.

regarding hashirama, i continue to believe he took his own life. and senju likely werent exterminated but rather the bloodline just kept thinning...
