If anyone has had seen the first episode to the OVA and already opened a thread for the OVA, then please redirect my post there.
I am just feeling happy and nostalgic because one of my most desired anime title made its comeback again, and I'm talking about
Sousei no Aquarion - Wings of Betrayal.
The wait was worth it absolutely.
My first impressions about the 3-D CGI animation on the TV series for the first episodes were low due that the design and construction, including the movements, for the vectors and united Aquarion seemed too mechanic and polygonal.
It is astonishing how the quality rate skyrockets exponentially when large budgets are pumped into OVAs.
The animation and CGI effects for Aquarion and the Cherubim were practically flawless, and I as well give praise and claps to the staff for reintroducing again the beautiful soundtrack of the TV series into the OVAs.
I have a hunch that maybe Kawamori's head was full with lots and lots of stuff that not all were able to make it into the TV series due to maybe budget, time or scheduling constraints.
I am speculating upon this because the OVA:
Spoiler:
Retcons completely the continuity and the storyline of the TV series.
The major and big differences are that:
1. Gen-Fudo was not the third rider who along with Celiane and Apollonius pilot the Aquarion 12,000 years ago. Rather a new character was created and reintroduced in the retconned timeline during the age of Apollonius and Celiane; the new warrior is Scorpius who, according to the OVA's readjusted storyline, was tempted by Tohma with Apollonius wings and betrayed his comrades.
2. While the OVA retains that Sirius and Silva are the descendants of Celiane's offspring, he's killed (offscreen) by the Shadow Angels prompting a dramatic change in character upon Silva.
3. Reika is now made the third focused character instead of Sirius. She can see visions back to the past of 12,000 years ago. The first episode for the OVA now implies that she's actually Celian's reincarnation while Silva presumedly is Scorpius's.
4. Unlike the TV series, Aquarion was not found by DEAVA in the OVA. Aquarion was summoned by Apollo, Silva, and Reikas' hearts. DEAVA instead manufactured mass-produced, military vectors not different from those that were seen during the last episodes of the TV series.
5. Four of the big seven Shadow Angels are sealed in ice.
6. There's more in-depth flashbacks about the times of Celiane and Apollonius.
The rest is the same as the TV series: all the staff characters at DEAVA are back with no changes whatsoever, the Shadow Angels crusade to harvest the human race for their prana in order to revive the Tree of Life, the Aquarions.
