I totally disagree.
Spoiler:
There's no trace of evidence that suggests that Aion became God. Indeed, Aion wanted to revolutionize the world, destroy Hell, and merge the Earth with Heaven. In order to overthrow God's reign and His eternal law, he had to provoke the Apocalypse himself by turning faith against mankind.
However, Aion's dream was foresaw by Magdalena to fail. It was predestined.
What I think happened to Aion's fate could be the following:
a) He became the next Satan (fallen angel) of Pandemonium. Episode 21 discussed that in order for Good to exist there has to be Evil which opposes it. For God's message of faith to triumph over the Devil, there has to be sin in order for people on Earth to acknowledge and repent from it, in order to achieve God's virtuous grace.
Also realize that it is suspicious what became of Pandemonium's head as it was never explained. The last time we see Pandemonium's head, Aion was holding and lift it while Pandemonium opened its mouth and emitted a noise from it and then there was light coming from it. Episode 21
b) Aion's fate remained unfullfilled. He couldn't dissappeared from this world or the next just like that, unlike Chrno who fullfilled his promise with Rosette. Aion still had unfinished bussiness left to do whatever they were. However, don't ask me about them because I'm ignorant what are they.
c) The power of Aion's horns is the restart of time fate, whereas Chrno's horns freeze time fate. This is better evidenced when all the children of the orphanage were defrost. However, this theory is really complex and even after Aion's horns were deposited by no reason at Magdalena's tomb, and then turn to dust.
What I can infere from this is that Aion 'miraculously' alter the time of his own fate stream and 'magically' restarted right after his horns crumbled.
d) Fast forward to 1981, Remington could just had imagined things and incredilously thought he had seen Aion. I mean if you're a human immortal who had spent the last 50 years alone and with no one in touch, that can worn out your mind and drive you insane.
However, what caught my attention about Remington is that I might had heard him say something like, he was a sinner.
Overall, 'a' is the most likeable option to me.
