Yeah I'm assuming it will be clear soon enough that he has always been aware of kaiju n.8's identity and he will be treated as an accomplice. Kikoru could still feint ignorance but I'd be extremely disappointed if her character development doesn't lead her to expose herself to defend Kafka.

Good, they found out early, it would have been dumb to keep it a secret any longer, now all we have to do is wait until everyone stops being stupid and realize that not only has he only done good, been more effective than their entire seemingly non-existent kaiju researcher department, but also how important of an asset he is on the field due to how he has been saving their asses from the humanoid kaijus.

I'm actually disappointed in this episode. The Defense Force got out of this with no casualties. It's kind of ridiculous how they fought a Kaiju as strong as the Red Kaiju No. 10, and all survived. Even all the grunts made it out. Even Star Trek would not let the red shirts live.
The action is nice and all, but this is feeling like there is no suspense or anything on the line. They'll all survive, and if it comes down to it, Kaiju no. 8 will rescue them. Now, if they come back with, "hey, let's imprison Kaiju no. 8", then Kaiju no. 9 pays a visit and wipes out half the Defense Force, then yeah, that might redeem it a little. It just feels too easy for the Defense Force right now.

-Even if Kafka didn't try fight back, doesn't change that he was much slower and that Hoshina could blitz him. Red guy was 9, Kafka 9,8, that's 0,8 difference. - Safest option is for Hoshina and Mina fight dangerous Kaiju. Full stop. Everything else is either more dangerous or useless endeavour. Well, feel free have last word. I don't think there is point prolong this discussion that isn't getting anywhere.

Well, pretty ominous note to start on with the Defense Force bigwigs all debating what to do about Kafka...leaning hard into dissecting him and turning him into a weapon. And Kikoru's dad wants him in their custody
![]() It's not a pretty sight seeing Kafka all bound and chained up like that, especially when Mina and Hoshina show up and he can't even properly apologize as they lead him away like he's on Death Row and walking alongside all the comrades he feels like he either failed or betrayed. But Ichikawa believing he'll come back to them isn't just his own opinion, the entire Third Division still believes in Kafka as Kafka, not a Kaiju. And they even salute him under the guise of saluting Mina ![]() As for Mina herself, she's fully committed to getting all the evidence she can to save his life, to prove that he's a human and not a threat, because she knew deep down that he was still Kafka. She even calls him "Kafka-kun" again. And if only for a moment she lets down the mask of the Defense Force Captain and is just Mina again as she lets Kafka knows she'll always be waiting for him ![]() I love how Hoshina's priority in getting Kafka back is a proper rematch with Kaiju No. 8, though he really is just worried about Kafka ![]() Well, it's one thing for his squad to accept Kafka, they knew him and were saved by him numerous times, but what about the brass? Or society? And there's really nothing they can do about it ![]() It shows how much they care about Kafka that Izumo is willing to get help from his father and Aoi is willing to call in a favor to help him ![]() Though Kikoru does the one thing SHE can do, which is plead Kafka's case to her father, but he does what he always does and just berates her and her failures. Dude seems to have a personal vendetta against Kaiju after what happened to Kikoru's mother, and that means bad things for Kafka. But at least Kikoru was able to face him as her father while still believing in Kafka ![]() They're breaking the team up!? Well, I get the point of seeding the top rookies in other divisions, though Ichikawa probably sees this as another chance to prove himself ![]() Kafka could probably have broken free if he wanted too...but now he has to plead his case to Director Shinomiya, who has no interest in hearing words from a Kaiju and fights Kafka to bring out his Kaiju side. With the power of a Numbers weapon harvested from Kaiju No. 2, he has piledriving gauntlets that can tear through Kafka on the defensive and leaves Kafka little choice but to 100% transform. And Shinomiya succeeded in bringing out the Kaiju in more ways than one as it seems like now the bug in Kafka's body is exerting control and trying to turn him into a full Kaiju! Will Kikoru's words get through to him ![]()

I'm not surprised with that early discussion. But it figures that despite Kafka literally saving an entire division (which isn't easy to replace!) there's barely any thoughts about keeping him alive. Or not even a single thought about the lives that were saved. Do they think divisions and individuals like Kikoru, Hoshina, and Mina grow on trees?
Still, I appreciate that the squad isn't a bunch of jerks that can't appreciate what he's done for them. Of course fighting together for some time builds up trust. So while most were likely shocked they could still see Kafka as himself. Probably the best scene with Mina in the show too. Had to be in a quiet place and without observation, but Kafka did need that. Ichikawa being a good guy helped too ![]() Not a bad thing to focus on the cast reacting to the situation while Kafka is locked up. I like Hoshina's type of concern. Clearly worried, but putting up a front and focusing on how his versus against Kafka wasn't legit since Kafka was clearly trying to get away and not fight him. Really cared about Kikoru's effort. The reality is her dad held massive sway over whatever would happen to her friend. And I'm glad she didn't simply walk out. Sure there's the start of an explanation with a kaiju killing her mother. But Kafka sure as heck wasn't at fault. And frankly it's mindblowingly stupid for him to resent kaiju for the death of his wife while not giving a damn about the life of his daughter. His parenting would have done as much to kill his daughter as the kaiju that was going to! And yeah I bet he does settle important matters personally. You know...minus raising his child which is leaves to his butler. No surprise that when pushed that far survival instincts would kick in. The human will may hesitate, but he's got human instincts and that kaiju part of him mixed together. I can't see either side wanting to simply roll over and die without a fight.

in kafka pov that they treat him as kaiju but the director using the weapon made from number 2 makes him a kaiju too even if is for a brief moment. It's not same true but you get the idea since kafka kaiju instincts react like there is one in from of him. It feels hypocritical from the director.
I'm sure all this is some kind of test or they will acknowledge him if he stops the attack or something. |

Watching the episode, it seems that everyone in the 3rd Squad was thoughtful after discovering that Kafka was Kaiju No. 8 (and tried to do everything possible to help him), and Isao decided to execute Kafka himself..., who apparently went out of his way. control..., let's hope. the next chapter!.
