A military nation and the nation of powerful witches that they persecuted. Amidst the war between these forces, two powerful individuals and their strong ideals will meet and come together to start a crusade that will change the world .
Well, kind of sucks for Iska that he gets promoted to Saint Apostle status but then his one good deed of the day of freeing a cute witch girl from confinement ended up landing him in prison before he could do anything. But I guess it ended up leaving him as their secret weapon . Iska's team is certainly quirky. We've got the sniper with a quick tongue in Jhin, a cute, busty, and affection redhead in a ponytail who knows her stuff in Nene, and a klutzy captain who despite her ample bosom looks like she's still in high school (and acts like it) and yet is somehow captain of a military operation in Mismiss . Iska seemed to take dual-wielding tips from Alicization era Kirito with the way he ably swung those swords around and used their abilities to his advantage . Yumiri Hanamori is playing a maid/loyal servant again? Is that her new typecast? I hope Alice isn't as much of a handful as Kaguya is Speaking of the Ice Calamity Witch herself, who actually pretty much won the battle if only by completing their objective and getting out of there intact, she seems as beautiful as she is dangerous with her deadly ice Astral Magic that can surround an area and take any form she needs it to. She definitely has the beauty, grace, and strength befitting a purebred royal, but with a softer and romantic emotional core deep down inside . I love how Alice is about to make a big speech before her own ice caves in on her and she lands in a perfect Princess Carry in Iska's arm, complete with them looking directly into each other eyes. Maybe not Love at First Sight (though she definitely seemed shaken up when he proclaimed his ideals while fighting her) but definitely a surprisingly intimate moment between two enemies. And then she huffs out of there like tsundere . Alice is so beautiful they couldn't resist throwing in a bathing scene in the first episode . Our two leads have a surprise second encounter while watching a play about two lovers on opposite sides? What a coincidence .

Putting aside that all Romeo & Juliet stories suck by default. I have several other issues.
1) Like why would anyone fall for random witch, when there is redhead engineer that is several legues above nearby. 2)If you have enemy commander you are hunting for literaly in your hands and capturing her is basicaly means end of war. JUST DO YOUR FREAKING JOB. 3) What the heck is going on with that theatre?! Is there some neutral zone between both countries? And if there is, what stops people of mass destruction just infiltrate other country through it? It probably was explained in novel, but anime should have cover that too.

This is another one of those stories where despite having an interest, I'm increasingly finding hard to watch because it runs too much on cringe "teen-fic-logic". Tried the first episode, but I'll have to give this a pass.

I suppose it will be interesting to see the girl he released at some point. All the more so since I'm curious to find out why he did it. Couldn't be that he only just realized the Empire were holding people captive because of their powers. And doesn't appear like she knew him personally either.
If nothing else it was mission accomplished by Alice. Heck if she could have just bailed out without fighting Iska at all it would have been a perfectly clean win. But understandable that she's pretty confident in her abilities. Did a decent job making the two seem rather even when it comes to a 1v1 fight. Honestly I'm not sure how peace works out without Alice's side winning. Still early, but the Empire seems much more....evil empire than the other side. Not sure they'd accept any peace where the magic users weren't locked up or having their powers restrained. Anyways, that was a solid start. Not the best first episode of the season, but it was fine.

I mean, aside from Iska being a black-haired boy who wields two swords and Alice wearing a white dress, I don't see much else similar between the two. Personality wise they don't seem similar at all.

That's the thing, as ironic as it sounds, Romeo x Julie isn't actually Romeo x Juliet kind of story. It's not story about transcending love that breaks barriers, but story about two hormone packed teenagers who refused use brain and gotthemselves killed over shallow crush. It's actually pretty educational. Sad that writers who later reused template didn't understand what is it about...

even with that for what i get still rushed and cut, the difference from the novel to manga are not that "big" to say which what happened in the manga don't happened in the novel, the point was to say which this episode was rushed a lot.

Certainly wasn't great episode I agree on that. Still manga cannot be used as reference, because only those who actually read novel can say what is manga original. As unlikely as it is, manga may have better pacing then novel by adding lot of stuff and anime might be more accurate adaptation. Even such cases exist.
You can say manga is better, but not that anime changed something from it
