I don't suppose there's a scene coming where Ares stumbles into a volcano is there? Plenty of good words to describe that guy. The point isn't anything ridiculous. But the approach is what makes him scum. If he actually respected Red's efforts and role in the party getting where it was then he would have at least let him leave with his stuff. Red's role may have been one where he couldn't contribute much past a certain point. But if he wasn't that strong to begin with then the party doesn't last long enough to get to where they are. In a gaming sense he's there to keep the party alive in the early going and either get phased into the background roster or killed off for dramatic effect. But that still means he was invaluable when the party (including the great Ares) wouldn't have survived on their own.
Of course I'd feel the worst for the hero in this situation if she wasn't told anything. Yeah, it is easier for her to not have to protect her brother out there. But mentally not knowing where he is and if he's alright isn't a good thing for the center of their team to have weighing on them. That'll also put the party at a disadvantage.

All the more so when it should honestly have been possible to find a good way to handle it. Just pointing out that his life wouldn't be in danger might have helped convince Ruti. Heck, could have had him stay back, let them take care of the threat, and then pick him up on the way back. Just say he was there the whole time. The party is stable, Ruti doesn't have to worry about whether he's ok, and Red can go home with honor intact. It wouldn't feel as good since they'd have to tell a small lie, but a minor thing in the bigger picture.

I'm a novel reader, so I'll just hold back from commenting on questions.
Not a big fan of the opening, felt like too many characters in there (a lot of townspeople and others). Not that I expect that much quality from a series like this but would have preferred a bit more focus on Gideon's s new life. I have mixed feelings about Gideon leaving like that (Ares is definitely a jerk but Gideon's own serious self-doubts didn't help), but its a nice change to follow someone who is happy to retire to a simple life after already having seen a lot (compared to that ambitious guy in town). And sounds like things are fine without him. Too bad Rit only showed up at the end, I wonder if they instead could have covered Gideon's new life by the receptionist telling her about it rather than just directly from Gideon's POV. |

One thing did not make sense here for me. Gonz was the one who fetched Red because Tanta was ill. We see Gonz getting frantic, and the woman(whom I will assume is Tanta's mother) get so as well, but what's up with the other guy? He barely says a single word throughout the whole affair and is holding on to Tanta's mother, yet Gonz is the one doing all the begging. Makes it feel like Gonz is the father, but I'm guessing he's the uncle to Tanta? Bothers the heck outta me =01...

It may not be easier, if the reality is that she works so hard because of her brother's lack of ability. Although it is a bit cliche`, in some stories, not having that one person you care about most to protect has indeed been detrimental to the development of the protagonist(or the Hero in this case). It is, in so far, difficult to determine if she would actually care or not about him enough for it to matter, but initially, I'm conflicted whether this is true or not(has deadpan eyes which are hallmark of chars that generally lack emotion, but calls Red "onii-san"). I'm sure time will tell =03.

Rit finally finds Red, and it's clear they have history when she recognizes him as Gideon .
So it turns out Rit isn't just some famous adventurer in the boonies, she's actually a second princess, so those looks aren't just for show. She left the kingdom because she was being eyed as the favorite for the throne over her crown prince brother and she didn't want to make things complicated, which is kind of similar to how Red left his party. But it's nice that she's so angry on his behalf . Man, these two are already getting cute with each other. It's pretty evident there's some chemistry and closeness between the two, and Red even based his fake name off Rit's nickname . So Rit used to be a haughty, tsundere, princess who was a guest party member for Rit and Ruti's party during their time in her kingdom, and she was somewhat standoffish towards them because she was worried they would take command away from her master, the captain of the guard. But even when she was a tsundere, she was still pretty cute, especially when she'd pout, make cute noises, or make a fool of herself . Of course it all turns to tragedy when Rit's beloved master was devoured by Shisandan, but luckily Rit was there to see through the falsehood and back Rit up...but we also see just how powerful Ruti is as she makes quick work of Shisandan. The Hero's Blessing doesn't mess around . I guess if there was anything that clinched Rit's feelings for Red it was when he spoke with her and inspired her to keep fighting on for her people rather than wallow in the sadness of all that she lost. Red might not have been the one with the Hero's Blessing, but he had the heart and words of a hero . Also, Rit looked great in that princess dress . Wow, Rit moves fast. She's already ready to retire, add her name to the shop (Red and Rit has a nice ring to it), and completely move in. She may as well have just confessed at this point . So Ares has already replaced Gideon with Tisse, an assassin, although it doesn't look like the rest of the party is all that happy with how things were handled with Gideon...and somehow I don't think Tisse is going to work out as well. But hey, Rie Kugimiya !

Yeah, the hero's party has really fallen apart. Technically they are getting things done and are working in the same direction, but the team spirit is dead here. You have Mr. Ego (Ares) wanting praise for replacing someone that it doesn't appear anyone wanted replaced....after he created the opening in the first place. Good job buddy, they'll find time to give you a trophy.
My condolences for Tisse. Presuming of course she isn't a traitor. I trust Ares as far as I could throw him and could easily see this guy working for the Demon Lord. Getting rid of Ruti's most trusted ally and then bringing an assassin onboard? Sure, that seems trustworthy. Doesn't help either that Ruti isn't in a great mood. Of course to be fair this girl is brought in expressly to replace her brother so...I doubt she's thrilled. But she probably also feels Ares' attempt to wrestle control over the party and feels the need to enforce the actual hierarchy. Even if Ares isn't a traitor he's an incredibly good disruption to party cohesion. At least Red and Rit are incredibly cute together. I also love how fast this girl moves. She's definitely very eager, but to be fair this isn't the first time they've met. No question she was interested in him for a long time and now that they've met again...she's all over this opportunity. Red might wake up tomorrow to find out they are already married .

This is part of why I like this series, no teasing stretched out for volumes, the romantic interest is here and she's moving in now. Well, it helps that they knew each other before which is why she's already so openly affectionate.
Aside from how cute Rit is, I'm also happy to have someone else there who Red can be open with, who is near his level and knows his past (compared to all the townspeople). Now we don't have to listen to him berate himself quite so much and it helps give an outsider perspective on just how skilled he actually is, and his own blind spots (yeah, something like that would crash the market). But then if he did have more self-awareness, he wouldn't have left the party anyway (though yeah, there's a big power gap between him and his sister). Its funny how savvy he was in the past when acting as part of the Hero's party, but now he's so laid back. |
