WTF ones like School Days. It makes me want to cringe. It is memorable not because its great or something but I just couldn't forget how bad it is.

The happily ever after ones, I won't remember endings from, say...Fate/Stay night or D.Gray-man, but the simple and good ends of Black Cat or Death Note.

Hmm I voted happy cause I remember most of them pretty well, but really I'd say an ending that is both Happy and Sad tend to been the most memorable for me:
Spoiler for List of Animes with that kind of ending:

Bittersweet would be my choice as well. Sad endings are usually just depressing and frustrating to me (like the Sean Connery movie "The Hill").

Something good happening, but coming at a cost and/or a loss are the endings I remember the most. I don't like all happy endings. They don't trigger any brain hormones that make it stay in my memory.

I find tragic endings to be more memorable.....but I really prefer to remember anime WITHOUT feeling like my heart is being pricked by a thousand tiny needles....>_<

They're more memorable in a BAD way.

Though on the other hand, happy endings are really memorable too because SO FEW ANIME HAVE THEM.

Bittersweet endings are probably the most common......and I dislike them a great deal.

I like good endings, but I like it better if everything important is resolved in the end.

Happy endings are the most memorable for me.

A well-done happy ending is a real treat for me. I find it very satisfying on both an intellectual and emotional level.

A poorly done happy ending is also memorable... because it's usually a deus ex machina ending that comes out of nowhere, and it's the opposite of a real treat, lol.

Anyway, I would say that well-done happy endings are my favorite endings. It used to be well-done bittersweet endings but I honestly find them to now be a bit overly common, like Chiibi stated.

But in anime series nowadays, that's quite a rarity. So I guess a happy ending can suffice.

I just prefer an ending that is an ending. Don't leave us hanging!

I voted for "sad ending" but i should take it back. Firstly because i prefer happy ending and will purposely try to forget any sad one. Secondly a perfect ending for me is while it's sad, i can sense a happy one coming...

In that sense, i will say Brave Heart and Higurashi have the best ending (as far as i remember) in movie and anime categories respectively.

Higurashi Kai's ending was wonderful, agreed. I really enjoyed that.

A sad, happy or open ended ending for me isn't that big of a deal so I can't really vote.

If anything, a believable ending that ties in with the story is what I prefer above it all. You can have a super sappy saccharine ending or a Tomino "Kill em all" depressing ending, but as long as the ending jives with the story concpet and structure I'm likely to like it anyway.
