YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAHHHHHHHHHH
This is one of my favorite currently serialized manga. I bet after the anime starts, there'll suddenly be interest in scanlating the manga. And NHK too, which is eeeeeexxxxcellent. It would have been my primary choice for an epic war story. I have the feeling this will be the best NHK epic anime since the Tweleve Kingdoms. The first post summary doesn't mention it, but the era of the story is founding of the Qin Empire, the first empire of China. Also, Xin doesn't have the family name of Li yet. Not even in the current storyline. (first episode hints he will have one though)

He's tall, older, muscle bound, and leading armies of thousands. Kiddy? Uh, hell no. This is WAR. BLOOD, IRON, AND DIRT.

This looks awfully promising to me. Not just the outstanding cast. But the director did Hikaru no Go and The Third, and the writer Spice & Wolf and Yosuga no Sora. I've just read some of the manga and agree that it's good. But the historical setting is the clincher for me, if they can do it reasonably well. Starts in June, according to Moonphase.

What's weird is, from what I'm observed from the first episode, is they seem to be switching between CG and drawings throughout the entire episode. It's mostly CG, but there is regular animation there. Kinda looks jarring when a scene switched from drawn to CG, and vice versa. The opening is the same exact way, with the majority of it being done in CG. Though, admittedly, the use of Celshading did help ease the transition a little, it is still jarring.
I'll comment on the full episode later, but I thought I'd put that out there. |
