I wonder how long this arc will last. One season/cour (13 episodes about) was usually enough for two volumes. This LN arc covers nine, so that would take.. eight cour to adapt? Unless they really rush through some stuff. Well, it'll be interesting how they do it.

Alicization was interesting and had its fun moments, but overall it felt too different from the original series. What I wanted to see was more of the original, with more development for the characters and worlds (particularly Alfheim). Alternative: Gun Gale Online expands on the world of GGO, but sadly with an entirely new cast...

The director will not be Tomohiko Itō:
Manabu Ono (Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, Saki, The Asterisk War) is directing the anime at A-1 Pictures. Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale animation directors Gou Suzuki and Tomoya Nishiguchi will join Shingo Adachi for the character designs. Shingo Adachi has been in charge of the designs for the entirety of the anime. Gou Suzuki did work on Ordinal Scale as sub-character designer and an animation director, as well as being the animation director for a few episodes of SAO II. Tomoya Nishiguchi has done animation direction and key animation work throughout the entirety of the anime. Ito: First off, it’s really packed. Not only is the story long, but you have to depict war as well. It made me wonder, “Just how (can you turn this into an anime)?” When I read the original novels, I figured it would take at least ten years from the time of the first season to adapt it for anime. Ono: I felt the same way as Mr. Ito. It seemed to be a story of epic scale that would be tough to bring to the screen. But I did sense that what Mr. Ito felt would “take ten years” to depict, when he first read the novels, is something that we can now achieve in an anime adaptation, thanks to all the recent technological innovations. So I was pretty sure that we’d be up to the challenge. |

Alicization arc is pretty long, and most of them are very hard to skip if you don't want to lose info as well. So if i consider the amount of content and the pacing of previous seasons, around 50 eps is likely. And SAO is pretty popular, i'd say the budget should be pretty good as well |
