"Badass" moments in manga/manhwa
NOTE FOR MODERATORS: THREADTITLE IS MISLEADING. PLEASE CHANGE THE TITLE OF THIS THREAD TO ---"Badass" moments in manga/manhwa---, AS I AM NOT ABLE TO CHANGE THE THREAD TITLE MYSELF
Is it just me, or are there a lot of "Badass MC" moments in both manga and manhwa right now? Examples: Shioon from the manhwa "The Breaker: New Waves" being badass Jin Mori from the manhwa "God of Highschool" being badass Sakamoto from the manga "Btoom!" being badass Nagisa from the manga "Assassination Classroom" being badass got more examples? Do you think there is a reason for this? Or just coincidence? EDIT: Opening post changed, thx mods For Clarification: I am NOT talking about current manga/manhwa having cool/great/fantastic MCs I AM talking about some manga/manhwas' current chapters capturing glorious moments of the MCs, although the manga/manhwa does usually NOT.

I didn't want to spoil anything... it can mean:
-Showing incredible skills (that were unknown or unused yet) -Defeating someone, who no one expected to be defeated -Winning a "fight of words" in an amazing way -Breaking a mental barrier and showing the own real self (like getting rid of an inferiority complex once and for all or something like that) -etc.

Only Jin Mori is badass from those you mentioned.
Some examples of current badass main characters are: Toriko Wu Geng (feng shen ji = manhua) Oga Saitama Tanba (garouden) Akari (Terra Formars) The 80's and 90's had more cool and badass main characters. Most of the current main characters are cowards or weak and got no guts. A good/badass main character is a rare example. To answer your question better, Age of "Badass" doesn't exist at the moment. |

I have to admit using "age" was a bad idea... I didn't know how to word it right xD But I do agree with you that in general the main characters are usually way too weak lately (escpacially in willpower) and don't even get the necessary compensating character developement to effectively make use of this "weak setting".

What define badass anyway? Kicking ass? Powerhouse type? Or simply capable to hold on his/her ground?
Regarding the age of badass, i kinda disagree with OP. The moments of badass characters have been around for long time, not fairly recently. I think it's because too many anime/manga nowadays having majority of weak characters that leave behind little to no deep impression upon us, so that few outstanding characters are getting more attention and being labeled as "Badass" |

Largest problem with modern times is that most times someone tries to do something badass, it either looks like they are copying something from the past, or it is way over the top.

"Badass" is about as useful and subjective as "moe", IMO.
If you mean we're getting more competent main characters since people are getting sick of pathetic losers, I'm not totally sure that's true. It's something I sure wish would happen though! |

I know what you mean TS, and i agree that people are over analyzing "badass". For me, it happens when a character does something completely unexpected (while looking cool ) or when they're the victim of a plot twist.
Spoiler for off the top of my head; potential spoilers:
