The staff list sounds a little... worrisome, but it can be winged. What's this "Special Skills" Director for Itano anyway? Anyway, I've read 2 volumes of Linebarrel upon hearing it was to be animated... Overall, it was nice to read, with nice Linebarrel designs and all that. Its pacing was a little slow as far as its standard mecha cliches went about, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. I can see the 3 seiyuus working their roles just fine.

Anyway, with Code Geass showcasing his non-protagonist-istic vocal ranges along with other factors, he's been a little more on demand, even for roles that wasn't his forte in the past. Frankly, I was mildly surprised at the choice to cast him for Katou. Not that he would do a bad job of it, but I thought they would go for someone with an slightly older voice. Kakihara and Noto are just about fine for their roles based on previous records. Then again, I thought the same for Lawrence/Wolf and Spice as well, but I suppose we'll see how he fits in. Anyway, the voice acting doesn't worry that much, it's the overall staff. -_-

I noticed this on ANN the other day. Immediately recognize the character design, we won't talk about that. I'm mildly interested as I am with all mecha/sci-fi series, plus Rie Kugimiya shows ups again in a mecha series (more like every series). It definitely looks Real Robot and that's all I can tell until further info is released. So yeah, my interest remains....there (although I can't help but feel like Aardvark on first impression). I don't think Gonzo is going to do the ridiculous breast thing one with this, so that may be a plus.
What exactly is worrisome about the staff though. I see credits that have worked on Code Geass, Xenoglossia, Macross Plus and Heroic Age, and all of those shows turned out alright. Though none of those were done under the oft dreaded Gonzo banner of hit or miss. |

Well first off people don't like Hirai Hisashi's designs as you should know, though thankfully these look like being his best since Scryed. Also the director has done Pokemon and the person doing series composition has done Gravion so that doesn't exactly inspire confidence in their skills. Of course giving good enough source material even mediocre staff/studios can rise to the occasion as seen by Brains Base excellent work on Baccano! and Imagin's Spice and Wolf (might be a tad early at 2 eps but so far so good). I'm curios to see how much influence Taniguchi has in this as well.
And of course this does bear the Gonzo banner but since this is airing in the Fall season they look like having a decent amount of time to work on it. I just hope they don't do a Spring 07 and work on 4 shows at the same time that season.... Also I really hope the line barrels don't look fucking shit like Dragonaut CG because I think a lot of people will drop it if it does especially after experiencing Macross Frontier's gorgeous CG throughout the Spring season. |

And I have to agree with others, it's refreshing to see a lead from Hisashi Hirai who doesn't just look like Kira. His designs also weren't too bad in Heroic Age. Maybe he's realized that people are catching on and trying to vary things just a smidge. |
