1st episode was… I’m not sure. It’s got more animation budget behind it than Kageki Shoujo. And I’m not opposed to stage girls working their way to stardom. And it tried to explain why the acting was good or bad. It just all felt a little rigid to me.

I’ll give it another episode if only for that unexpected final shot before the credits. It earned a little something, there. But, overall, I’m not blown away, yet.

episode 1:

glad to see Sally Amaki getting more va work. She's good.

my early favorite character is Yae. So helpful. Without her, Kokona probably would not have made it in.

will keep following for now..

Kathrina might as well be named Himekawa Ayumi.

Two episodes in, what holds my attention most is trying to figure out who/what Shizuka is. Kokona doesn't seem the least bit surprised or concerned that no one else can see her or hear her. At this point, anything from imaginary friend to theater goddess is still a possibility.

Kathrina may be Ayumi, but Kokona is not Maya. All Kokona does is copying others. And it's clear this time Kathrina will come on top.

Also, I'm not a fan of what they're doing with Shizuka. The fact she can't interact with anyone but Kokona is really boring.

episode 2:

feels like Kokona power is to copy the sense of others? Because she is able to do what Yae did a moment ago, simply by watching it.

also the Shizuka situation is getting more interesting. I don't need an explanation right away. It's ok if they reveal if much later.

Copying is not acting though. She's not gonna win any auditions until she finds her own acting.

episode 4:

finally, Kathrina has some more respect for Kokona. Looks like they're going to be real friends now.

also some mystery about Shizuka still remains. She first appeared in a train, after Kokona failed an audition.. still makes me think, she might be a spirit who died there, and just started following Kokona since then.

Panda is more beaufitul with her hair down imo.

this is now my favorite anime of the season. Looking forward to next week.

The four possible explanations I came up with were (a) imaginary friend, (b) ghost, (c) yokai, or (d) some kind of acting-related goddess. Last week eliminated (a) and (b) for me, because she took physical form.

It also occurred to me that she could be a manifestation of Kokona's "Sense," whatever that means. I haven't seen the latest episode yet, though, so maybe they've already explained what Kokona's "Sense" is.

episode 5:

Yae is really matured in thinking.
looks like she has another goal, not just becoming World Dai Star.
some more thing would probably be revealed as she lives with Kokona for a few months.

Kathrin get bit by Dugong. lol
well, it's nice she's no longer hostile.
I think the Sultan role is just right for her.

looking forward to next week.

Next week's episode is "Romeo and Juliet." Which one will Kokona be playing?

I'm hoping she will play Tybalt or Mercutio. Way more interesting roles than either Romeo or Juliet.

enjoyed Panda and Sau performance of Romeo and Juliet. I also like that they edited it to have a happier ending for the kids.

and I agree. King Lear would be too much for grade schoolers.

Meh. I get that the episode wanted to feature the two of them, and I get that they wanted a happy ending, but there are ways to accomplish both of those things without completely undercutting a classic play's meaning.

If they'd wanted a Shakespeare play that was accessible to children and had a happy ending, the obvious choice is A Midsummer Night's Dream. Yae-chan would have made a great Puck, and Kokona could have run around wearing the donkey head.

On the other hand, I loved all the PTSD over performing King Lear for school children. It's good to know that even a theater company supposedly as good as SIRIUS can have disasters, too.

the goal of the play is to please the grade school kids, not to please you the adult guy watching the anime. They pretty much accomplished the mission of making the kids happy by changing the ending of Romeo and Juliet to a happy one. The children could watch the real Romeo and Juliet with the tragedy when they're older, and can better understand the meaning of it.

anyway, Romeo x Juliet has been used several times in other anime. I'm getting tired seeing tragedy all over again. I'm more pleased with the positive vibes I've seen here. And again, the grade school kids can watch the original tragedy version when they're older.
