And yet another short anime picked up by Crunchyroll this season.
Edit: the first episode was okay, I guess? Not sure if enough to interest my following the series though....

Whoa, so many SF references. I shall have to make sure some people I know watch this first episode, at least.
Even more SF references in the second episode. Really, I don't expect three and a half minute anime shows to drop so many SF author references. (My inner SF fan balks at Crunchyroll's subtitling of "SF" as "sci-fi"...) Last edited by Dop; 2016-10-13 at 15:08. |

OK, I've been present at the kind of "SF is speculative fiction" discussions before now, so that was hilarious. Miss Bernard's portrayal of a Murakami character was also spot on.
I guess this show is a very niche interest, and judging by the last three episodes, I am that niche. |

I'm really enjoying this show.
Miss Bernard's VA is great. She really nails that mix between genki girl and pretentious wannabe. I love it. And there is Murakami! Finally, a reference to something I've actually read! I'm not much of a reader, but this show really makes me want to read a lot different kinds of books. I guess I have some Miss Bernard in me after all...

I didn't know this was a three minute series just from the MAL entry for this season's anime, so I was disappointed.
I guess I was expecting Dagashikashi with books, mainly relying on the interactions between the characters to build some sort of rapport, so I was... yeah, disappointed. We all have a bit of Bernard-jou in us, but the series doesn't wanna capitalize on that, and it feels like the references made are cheap references - they don't do anything to make people interested in checking the actual books out, so people who aren't in the know will just sit there confused. (I'm more of a classical English Literature reader, so most of the SF references were lost on me. ) By the way, how are Haruki Murakami's works viewed in Japan? Do people really get disgusted by them? At the very least, I find the stance of reading works that he translated interesting. That entire segment on Murakami was the best part out of the three episodes so far. The voice acting is decent though. Now if this show gains a bit of heart, and explains why she's called Bernard-jou, that would be great. As it stands at the moment, I'm watching because of the short runtime...

I'm a huge reader and SF fan, and as a teenager SF/Fantasy was pretty much all I read. I've lived the conversations in this series almost word for word. And the sci-fi girl shows serious cred by reading Olaf Stapledon.
The Murasaki convo was hilarious. He is ridiculously popular, to the extent that some of the avant garde fans who loved him turned on him when he was discovered by the rest of the world.
