Hand-drawn Vs. Computer-drawn
Here's a couple of quotes from:
http://megatokyo.com/strip/1310#rant1050 "Some of you may not have noticed, but there is a big difference between comic 1309 and comic 1310. Oddly enough, its really not as easy to spot as i thought it would be - Comic 1309 was drawn digitally (like i've been doing for the past four years or so) but comic 1310 was drawn by hand." "So i decided to try something. I did the last comic the old fasion way, drawing each frame by hand in pencil. I was kinda bothered by how much quicker they all went. Then, after scanning, cleaning them up and hatching them with my recent forays into digitally hatching and rendering things (thats for another rant) i was rather surprised to see that the two comics didn't look all that different. Comic 1309 took about 9 hrs to draw (before hatching). Comic 1310 took about three (before scanning and hatching). huh." http://megatokyo.com/strip/1309 http://megatokyo.com/strip/1310 Is it really 3x faster to draw by hand than by computer? |

I would say it's easier to draw it faster, rather then "always faster". This is also a question of quality to some extend. Anyway, I prefer the natural way over the digital, but that's only if I'm not drawing something precise or repetitive or "flexible", like some kind of illustration or diagram; then, even though I suppose you could use a ruler and various other tools, the digital tools just pawn the physical counterpart.
This is somewhat the same debate that you have for digital vs film in photography, only backwards. "Which is better?" And the same answer there, it depends, if you need absolute quality film is the answer, if you require convenience digital is the answer.

Which is better? To say the truth it depends, on your personal skill.
As a person who loves to draw (anime), start on which is available for you. If you don't have a computer, do it by hand. If you do have one, have a tablet (?)"computer pen(?)". Both has its advantages and disadvantages. Let me see.... (Note: I don't have a computer and I'm not a cartoonist) Hand Drawn Adv- Fast, good in drawing small details Dis- Erasure!!! Computer Drawn Adv-(probably) clearer images, easy to edit, erase, paint. Dis-you expose yourself to radiation plus your eyes. Seriously, If I were you, have use both instead, draw by hand, edit and paint using the computer.... therefore you need a scanner |
