Sincerely doubt that it will be another 12 episodes considering the 6th fight is currently still ongoing. Even 10 episodes would be way big of a stretch for the 4th and 5th fight.
So my guess is that this will be just the Jack vs. Hercules fight, and they will continue with this format onwards. But above all else, have some good animation quality this time, please! |

Wait, this series did decent enough to get a second season? All I ever heard is that the animation for the fights- which is the whole draw of the show in the first place- was pretty bad. So I definitely didn't see a second season being possible.

So, I haven't watched the first season but I have a question for those who have watched it & like it: What is the appeal of the show other than watching random characters fight?
I mean, the characters in the show really don't represent their "real life" myth & historical depictions in terms of looks & powers. So why even attach names like Kojiro, Thor, Zeus, etc when they feel like entirely different characters? It feels like Fate nonsense but with less Lore.

Golden Kamuy is an example of a series in which the seasons were improving in quality with each new production, but in the case of shummatsu we would be talking about something totally different.

15 episodes are confirmed for Season 2.
First 10 episodes will be available on the 26th of January. The rest follows with no date yet in 2023. Season 1 adapted 20 chapters more or less in 12 episodes. This one will adapt about 34 chapters. On paper the pacing is better, but I still think it will drag a lot, especially if the intention is 5 episodes per fight. |

Finished watching it. The animation is exactly on the same level as that of season 1. Shiva vs Raiden was quite the slideshow.
Currently number 2 on Netflix in my country, I don't think even Cyberpunk: Edgerunners ranked that high as far as anime go. Third season is pretty much as good as confirmed, it's cheap to make and it's popular. No reason not to order another season.

The animation quality improved, but it's still not enough for a fighting oriented work. It's a deceptive production. The designs are detailed, really good, but what should matter the most, the actual combat and fighting choreography are thoroughly skimped and dumbed down. At this point the animators are shitting their pants over the slightest kicking and punching barrages.
Getting this out of the way, it indeed will have a full adaptation due to its popularity and cheap production costs. For a lesser known magazine and publisher, the manga sold over 3 million copies in 2021, making it the 13th best selling overall title. It has sufficient amount of pages for a monthly serialization, so it's just a matter of time. At the earliest given the pacing of the fights, I can see the manga wrapping up in 2026. I don't see it falling from grace. |

Jack vs. Heracles is my favorite overall fight to this day, so that's a plus.
Shiva vs. Raiden got the Adam vs. Zeus treatment. Unfortunate. Wonder if Buddha gets some budget, since he is the most popular character in the franchise based on an official poll more than a year ago. Jack is 2nd, Raiden is 6th, but his fight got screwed. |

Jack vs Heracles is definitely my favorite fight so far as well. Jack was really cool, had a great backstory, and he and Heracles had a good dynamic. Brain vs brawn fights are also always cool. The fight being set in a reproduction of London also added a lot of flair compared to a plain old boring ring.
Shiva vs Raiden felt like a very big step down.

Shiva vs. Raiden felt like a torture with the monthly release.
I did a quick calculation. From the page that announces the start of the fight till the end result and finisher move, Jack vs. Heracles had roughly 398 pages while Shiva vs. Raiden had 448 pages. Except I counted the behind the scenes pages with Loki, Buddha and the others almost having their own mini Ragnarok and maybe because of that inflation, the fight just felt like it lasted longer than necessary. What I liked is all connected to the ending. Raiden died while standing, his valkyrie died with him despite his wish to undone the Völund, and the supposed plot armor for the Japanese participants was proven to be wrong. Shiva was not Ares-tier of joke character, but got ridiculed enough that his win felt satisfying. Last edited by WingedAccelerator; 2023-02-02 at 07:00. |
