Looking for high-quality animation!
I've seen some great stuff in my day. Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Ouran, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Naruto. They all have insanely good animation during fight scenes. Are there any other (unlicensed) animes out there with equally (or dare I say, better?) great animation?

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya or Ouran High School Host Club are two recent beautiful series done by Kyoto Animation and BONES, respectively. I'd check those out.

Ouran has fighting scenes? That's news to me.
Anyway, apart from Ouran and Haruhi, the highest quality of animation in a series that I am following is in Simoun but it does have a few episodes where the quality drops drastically, alas.

I have seen the first episode of Le Chevalier, a very new anime and it had some really cool fight scenes although rather short, you may want to check that out
The Kenshin OVAs and Basilisk had great action animated scenes as well (but they are licensed) Tenjou Tengeh had nicely animated fights but the story wasn't done well |

Kenshin OVA otherwise know as Samurai X did have very good animation, but for an entire series the best animation I have seen is Last Exile, a almost seemless blend of CG and 2D animation it is almost breathtaking, especially if you have a nice big high quality tv in the dark, or a computer monitor works too.

If you dont mind mech fighting action, then I heartily suggest Eureka 7. Human fighting action... usually you're better off looking for movies (Jin-Roh? Blood? etc.)
If you want something inconsistent but very creative and innovative, try Noein (has some absolutely excellent fight scenes!) I also second Black Lagoon as a very well-produced recent action anime. Guess you could try Coyote Ragtime Show as well... if you like that, maybe give Futakoi Alternative (produced by same studio) a spin too.

Since Haruhi has already been mentioned, I would say Top Wo Nerae!, 1 and 2. Gainax's masterpieces. Its a mecha anime series, Gunbuster is the famous super robot from Top! 1.
Top! 1 was beautiful for a 1989 anime, story and graphics wise. Its a 6 episode OVA. Top! 2 probably has the best animation ever for mecha anime, it had a really amazing plot too, no one saw what was going to happen. The OVA started in 2003 or earlier and the final episode, episode 6 will come late August this year I think. The episodes were released really slowly, but in return we get the highest quality in graphics and story.

I've been watching a lot of your suggestions recently and, my god...
You have shown me light beyond light. SIGHT BEYOND SIGHT. This is the best stuff I've ever seen! I never knew there was stuff like this floating around. The suggestion board is now my favorite page in this forum. Please, do keep 'em coming. (Melancholy of Haruhi and Coyote Ragtime are my current favorites, right now, btw) |

What about Fate/Stay Night and Shakugan No Shana? They have high quality animation too. I also recommend Utawarerumono, Strawberry Panic, Ah My Goddess TV (Season 1 and 2) and Simoun on the list too.
