Shin Megami Tensei Devil Children (2000, 50 episodes) + Light & Dark (2002, 52 eps)
A lot of people may be familiar with the 2008 "Persona: Trinity Soul" series here: http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/1141.html and you might have heard about the upcoming "Persona 4 Animation" this year: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_Me...sei:_Persona_4
But Persona itself is part of the Megami Tensei series which has had other anime too! Beginning with this 1987 OVA: http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/573.html which seems to be licensed. There were also 2 OVAs in 1995 called Tōkyō Mokushiroku which I am unsure on the licensing status of. This thread focuses on the two "Devil Children" cartoon series. These are apparently based on a series of manga and GameBoy spinoffs of the Megami Tensei series: They seem to have similarities with the Pokemon animated series, though obviously wildly different darker origins. We have a tracker for the second season (or spinoff, whatever you want to term it" where "Devil Children" is sometimes shortened to "D Children" and has the subtitle "Light and Dark": http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/1545.html The first episode has been done by Anime-Heaven but I can't find a thread linked nor anything showing up pertaining to this in the search engine, so I am hoping we could designate this thread to talk about both of the (collectively 102 episodes) seasons of Devil Children which succeed the 3 OVAs in the 80s/90s and precede the more well known (yet shorter) Trinity Soul anime. Would anyone know if the first 50 ep season from 2000 is licensed? I'm guessing the 52 ep from 2002 is not since we still have a tracker up for it. Here are the ANNs for both: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ency...me.php?id=1847 http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ency...me.php?id=1832 (L+D) Don't ask me why LD has a lower number than the preceding season, I guess someone added it first. Since it's the only one that's been subbed (albeit 1 ep) this may denote more popularity. Last edited by tyciol; 2011-07-12 at 16:40. |

I know there were several groups wanting to sub this, but what usually holds up the issue is that there is a lack of a translator willing to do this. I was translating the 2000 series for a group (something that is rather tough for me) and I had completed the first episode. Infact, the first episode was translated, timed, and ready to encode, but there were some disagreements with how the project leader was handling the project. For example, she had modified my translations to the point that it reintroduced engrish into the script that I had tried to fix without it sounding off. There were other things changed too that I don't recall off the top of my head.
I don't have the translation anymore, and honestly, after my experience with the group leader, I don't really have any motivation to translate the rest of the series, after having to deal with the problems I had. I was in the middle of episode 2 when this occured. Not to mention, I no longer have access to the raws of the series, so go figure. |

It fares well enough, L+D reminds me a lot of Digimon basically. Not as dark or serious as Trinity Soul which I just watched. Then again, only saw the first episode.
Chibi I hope some day you will find a group that treats you better I add them to 'upcoming' so that mods will move them to the 'older series' section as they regularly do, since you can't create threads there directly. That's why I put the years there, for easy notice. I don't think it's general anime because we have specific series sections. |
