My only question why? It could have make sense if it is actual sequel but they adapted all of the manga as far as I remeber. And if it will be just a collection of the skipped chapters, it will be worthless as the oroginal was already way worse when it switched from the main pair to secondary characters.

I can't say no to more Horimiya but it's weird that they'd speedrun the first anime and then go back and adapt stuff they skipped over .

I guess hopefully they just include more HorixMiyamura content because they went to the trouble of focusing on the side characters and side ships in the second half (which was as much to the anime's detriment as it was to the manga). I think they completely skipped over Sports Day, if I remember right.

We return to graduation for the Horimiya gang as the studio realizes they can still milk money off of this popular romcom by going back and animating all the content they skipped over using Hori's recollections and the school's yearbook as a framing device. And thus we get Horimiya - Piece - .

The new OP is as artsy and banger as the original, complete with Miyamura trapped in a cage but rushing free to see Hori (complete with some Hori leg fanservice as she splashes in the water at the beach), the guys racing (to the girls?), the guys and girls hanging out with each other, yukata fanservice (I see you starting at Hori's nape, Miyamura!), and ending on Hori and Miyamura .

Did you know the gang went on a Kyoto trip? Back when Miyamura had long hair, glasses, and wasn't dating Hori yet? Well, now you do! Also here's all the Shu screentime that the show skipped in the first half .

What's the best way to get out of group bathing with guys? Have your best bro claim you're on your period! It's a sure-fire method even if it'll leave you dying of shame afterwards .

The may not have been dating yet, but there was definitely an intimate closeness between Hori and Miyamura as Hori lets him use her shower, something she wouldn't do with another guy, and both of them are inching closer and closer to acknowledging how they really feel about each other .

Now we jump to post-haircut Miyamura getting splashed by Remi who wants to know why he's so averse to stripping around other guys (I'm sensing a bit of a theme for this episode), and why she doesn't mind that Sengoku does the same because she actually appreciates how slender he is .

So Miyamura looks good in a sailor suit, huh. And he got caught by Ishikawa. And then it comes down to a heated debate about what uniform girls look best in and Sengoku keeps getting roped into this nonsense...but he's a cultured boy who appreciates a girl in a tracksuit. Meanwhile Hori is glad to find out Miyamura has a thing for blazers !

Remember how their teacher had a high school girl fetish and was voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda? Well, here he is, and he goes from basically forcing Miyamura and Sengoku to swim to becoming their messiah when they basically badger him into letting them get away with not swimming .

Remi the type of girlfriend to steal your sandals and flaunt it in front of you. Cute. Especially when Sengoku pushes away any guys staring at her bare feet .

The ED is pretty cute with the pastel colored Hori as she plays around with her phone...and then dances on said phone, but she's really just trying to get ahold of Miyamura who shows up right at the end !

That was a ton of fun. I liked the way they did things, using "Miyamura can't show his tattoos" as a theme and showing us stories related to that regardless of when they took place. It surprised me just how well it flawed, especially with the recurring period joke.

I hope there'll be an episode fully dedicated to Hori's dad being awesome.

I'm not saying it was bad, but what's the point of broadcasting a cour of skipped chapters, and on top of that, with the same episode having two chapters that are in different time frames?
And you aren't introducing or reminding the audience of the first season either, so the audience just sees these stories here and there and in pieces?

Like, you have old anime broadcasting a 2nd season like Hataraku Maou
You have old anime just starting over like Wolf and Spice
You have recently new anime doing a 2nd season of short stories like Ousama Ranking

And you have this, an old anime doing a 2nd season of short stories

It's likely that back when Horimiya was being planned for anime, the production committee wanted the anime to be just the 1 season long which concluded the main story. The anime team gets the order and wraps up the main story but has to leave out all the SOL stuff.

Then the anime got super popular with fans, and no doubt some of them were complaining about the skipped content. So to capitalise on said popularity, production committee orders a new season that covers the remaining SOL content from the manga story.

It's somewhat similar to the anime adaptation of Dress Up Darling IMO; its producer said that the anime was originally supposed to be just the 1 season but due to overwhelming positive fan reception, S2 just had to be approved.

I was a bit iffy on the concept of going back to past chapters that were skipped just to adapt them, but that was actually funny. I might need some help remembering what some of the character's deals are though.

There were a lot of freebies in this. I wonder if they can keep this up TBH, since as the story moves on the beats will get more and more serious. I dont know what exactly was skipped but I'm worried that they'll adapt a lot of stuff thats hard to pin down with out the full context.

Miyamura and Sengoku survived the pool! Of course now they also have to deal with Sports Day, which is a whole other hassle altogether. I don't think calling for rain is going to work here, guys .

Best Girl Sakura is back! Remember when she was crushing hard on Ishikawa? And then she realizes he might see her as a failure of a cheerleader on Sports Day and joins the "call forth the rain" group to avoid it. Poor Sakura .

Sports Day might be a lot of work, but when you're together with the person you like and they're spurring you on, it might be more fun than you'd think .

Shindo Cameo .

Sakura is still anxious about appearing as a cheerleader in front of Ishikawa...and ironically the girl who would end up stealing Ishikawa from her, Yoshikawa, ends up helping her practice to get better at cheering. We even have Sengoku reflecting on the sweet friendship moment like he would later reflect on the love triangle drama .

Sakura not only has to deal with Sports Day and cheerleading but also trying to make Sengoku and Remi cook while avoiding disaster. It gets so bad their classmates have to chip in just so they can make curry...and they still almost burn the whole thing! But even if Remi and Sengoku can't cook, Sakura will marry them both and do the cooking for them! Which also just makes me think that Sakura is as good a boyfriend as she would be a wife and she'll be resigned to the perpetual single third wheel in Remi and Sengoku's relationship .

Cheerleader Hori is a cute visual...but ponytail Hori with that gakuran uniform is very her .

Is Hori a little possessive of Miyamura? Well, declaring "it's mine" in English in front of the whole class and making it clear she doesn't care for Miyamura getting chummy with other girls is pretty clear on that front. I wonder if she'd have gotten that way if he was palling it up with a guy ?

Mizuochi seems like a considerate guy, but I don't blame Miyamura for not wanting another guy's blazer over his girlfriends' legs. And he manages to give Hori the sight of him being jealous that she wanted while also getting a nice hug and intimacy with her before Mizuochi comes back. It was a really sweet scene .
