I wander by to see any word of the final episode and all I find is hate -_-. Wtf? To point all the blame on Kawamori seems...unjustified. He's not the sole person in charge of the series. There are people above him who have a say in what happens and make him rework his original plan. Why? Because of profit. If the higher ups feel that the current plan or whatever won't be marketable or make them lose customers, they'll have it redone. This has been done in countless anime for years. Off the top of my head were the Gundam series. Tomino's original designs for the mecha of the series were completely scrapped by his superiors. The reason: the designs wouldn't be highly marketable as toys. He also created a novel of the series before the first series ended and had the main character killed off. Afterwards he lamented saying that he wouldn't have done it in the novels if he had known another series was to be made. Then were was Gundam SEED. The show's director admitted that they had the pilot of the GAT-X103 Buster switch to the main character's side because sales of the model kit were poor. Putting the blame solely on the director is unfair.
Unless he tells us, the reason for the ending of the series being the way it is may never be truly known. It could have been his call or maybe the higher ups wanted to keep sales of Ranka and Sheryl merchandise going and didn't have to make a bias towards one or the other. Maybe it was done as a marketing strategy to get people to pay money to see the movie and conclude it there and milk the franchise even more. |

So it gives me hope that heŽll be properly motivated to resolve the romance in the movie. Which I need right now.

I mean, we don't really count, as the series' presence overseas is still a big question mark (and whatever imports exist are not likely to make much of a dent in the overall sales), but the native fans should SPEAK UP if they're as frustrated as us.

I just skimmed through the Japanese image board 2chan's Macross F thread and their reaction somewhat mirrors our reaction. One poster mentioned that he didn't understand the episode clearly. While others complained that there were some things that were underdeveloped. I found this comment a bit amusing: ""Ah! The vajura switched sides in only a matter of minutes!!" (LOL) I'll hit the Macross F BBS after I come back from my lunch break so if anything is noteworthy (which I'm sure it is), I'll try to remember to post it here. --Lone Wolf 一匹狼 |

Whatever, I'm sure it won't be as bad as people say and it's probably the hardcore shippers who are taking it the worst. Whatever, Sheryl got the last kiss |

OH! And Sheryl gets to live and be happy again. If the movie isnŽt such a drama-fest like the last episodes, where Sheryl really shone, but also really suffered, then IŽd be more than happy to wait for it. Because Sheryl from episode 5-10 is still my favourite one. I can even suffer through more triangle stuff with loli-Ranka, if Sheryl gets to compete with her usual moxy, instead of all the despair she had to go through. I want the air date for that movie, though.

Okay even though I'm a super Sheryl shipper, I can't be that mad. Other then the triangle, the episode was pretty awesome. The last half was really well done with all the song remixes and mecha porn. I'm not that upset about the triangle because I think if anything Ranka grew up and showed a lot of love for someone other then Alto even if it was seriously inconsistent. She says she won't lose to Sheryl in songs or love, but I guess you can interpret that in a lot of ways. She looks up to Sheryl as a role model and wants to be just as good as she is. Sheryl acknowledges Ranka. If anything it was a Sheryl x Ranka end.
Alto acknowledges that both of them are his wings, but I don't think that's a bad thing necessary. Both girls are important and that should kind of quiet down some fans who seem to think everything Alto does is all about Ranka. I still lean towards Sheryl lover, Ranka friend end. If Ranka isn't the one Alto picked things would go differently this time. No mass murder and crying. She'd be happy that Alto and Sheryl were happy. Maybe my Ranka rage is gone? I'm probably giving her too much credit. And Brera has a hot scar now. |

Bobby asks what Aimo is as Ranka walks onto the Frontier's bridge. She explains that Aimo is a "koi no uta" and then another voice cuts in, presumably Ranshe explaining the Vajra's origins and again talking about Aimo as a "koi no uta".
Later, the narrator adds: "Aimo, aimo. Anata anata 'tte." Last edited by mechabao; 2008-09-25 at 15:26. Reason: better explanation |

And thus, Kawamori at least has achieved immortaility through being a memorable troll. Still, I am waiting for the episode (gg, hopefully you'll be fast), and will post my opinions later. Unfortunately, from what I'm seeing, it wasn't that good.

But yeah, it's fantastic that Sheryl at least gets herself back together after the constant barrage of putdowns she's had since Gallia 4. |
