^ It's funny you feel that way, because I absolutely adored Chihiro and hope we see more of her soon. She's so sweet and thoughtful (that's saying a lot considering how nice everyone in this show is!) Although I'm a big fan of her VA, so that makes me quite biased.

Yeah, I got teary-eyed too. Haven't heard Junichi Satou's name mentioned since the end of Umi Monogatari, but damn, maybe I should pay more attention. The OVAs are downloading right now.
At the same time, I expect the emotional impact will die down and we'll end up with a warm relaxing series. Doesn't seem like the OVA watchers took as much of a beating from this episode. You can only get so far with pure fluff for a story. I never made it all the way through Aria, myself, for one thing (maybe it was a bad idea to try to marathon it). For the moment, though, Tamayura has jumped straight up my (admittedly short) list for the top Fall 2011 show of this season. |

Ooh, I quite liked the OVAs, and they kept what's good and improved the characterisation. Due to the extremely cosy atmosphere, one episode per week is probably the optimal dose, too.
I'm going to look forward to this one each week. @Chihiro: I found her utterly annoying, too, but I still love her and want to see more of her. ETA: My fave scene was Fu asking her mom for the camera. That scene shows what I love about the show. |

I still expect it to be a warm and relaxed series, best consumed in small doses. But, as I said in my other post, I also expect it to be more of a character show, while retaining the picture book quality I loved about the OVAs. |

It is a boy ... but he is a "bishounen" (is that the right term?) - meaning a pretty boy who almost looks like a girl. This is clearer in the Tamayura OVA's....

I didn't find it that sad either, and I don't think it was supposed to be. It was touching for sure, but it was so full of positive vibes and fluffiness it warmed my heart. I got exactly what I came for.
I enjoyed learning more about Fu's past and what led her to move back to the city she spent her childhood at. Chihiro the crybaby is a nice addition to the cast, and I hope we'll see more of her. If the OP is any indication, then we will.

Simply put, some people find heartwarming scenes more tearjerking than sad scenes, and that's definitely what moves me to tears (depressing scenes usually just leave me numb, while heartwarming scenes can get to me). But then, some people find depressing scenes more tearjerking than heartwarming scenes. While watching Anohana, I often wondered why I was not as emotionally moved as most viewers seemed to be, and this is probably part of the reason why.
