Someone just found a news about Urobuchi and these puppet shows exactly two years before this announcement... http://news.aniarc.com/news/83651/【2...24859;情, http://m.gamer.com.tw/home/creationD...php?sn=2365264
Back in 2014 Feb, Urobuchi go to Taiwan for a Fate/Zero autograph session. The news said he arrived Taiwan a day ahead of the session so he went to experience different things including pili puppet shows. He said those pili puppet show gave him a very strong cultural shock, claim that he culturally aware of their existence but completely don't know they've already evolved into this form and there're completely no promotion about it in Japan. In the interview he said now all of his mind was about how to promote it when he wwnt back to Japan. He even brought whole set of pili pupoet show DVD in order to promote them to others. One month after, he get shocked by the puppet show again by sudden death of a certain character in the puppet show dvd he brought {like how we react to Madoka ep3} as he wrote on twitter, and Taiwanese netizens commented "it's finally your turn~" Last edited by c933103; 2016-06-11 at 03:04. |

Intriguing, though some of the characters do look like they fell out of an 80s pop video, and Gerry Anderson did the whole puppet lipsync thing better in the 60s, but yeah. I'll watch more of this.
Bit campy and overblown, perhaps, but that's the style, I guess. If nothing else it's a curiosity, but one i'm finding intriguing so far. |

The puppet Lpsync is problematic because the script was in Taiwanese, and was filmed that way. But then the Japanese script is basically twice as long because Japanese is a much wordier language. The Japanese voice actors basically struggles to finish their lines before the scene changes.
As an example, when they tried to dub Hellsing Ultimate into English, the director struggle to expand the script so the English actors have something to say while the character is still talking. EDIT: Also, it seems Crunchy Roll used the Chinese pronunciations of the names. This is a BAD idea, as if you are watching the Japanese dub the names wouldn't match. Hope they fix that. Dan Fei is the main girl's Chinese name, but the Japanese dub clearly call her Tanhi/Taihi. This applies even worse for all the specialised terms on the magic weapons, the old Demon war, and others that just shouldn't be in Chinese unless you are watching the actual Chinese/Taiwanese dub.

I have problem getting the names. While I appreciate the intricate details on the puppets and the awesome fights, I couldn't figure out what was going on in the fights because things moved so fast. It was different and kind of badass but hot damn, I couldn't help thinking how gorgeous it would be in anime format.
