so I understand, the bear was horrible, but the episode had several good times, the opening was the best large-scale warfare I've seen in anime for many years. Why is this being discarded? Am I wrong to think that many anime fans are superficial?
There are countless moments in american movies and series where the CG is terrible, but even then there is not all this excitement. The deer of The Walking Dead has already been forgotten. |

Personally though, I found the first episode fairly underwhelming. The CG animals wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, but the rest... choppy editing, exposition hell, coincidences hell, convoluted set-up, distracting "epic" BGM, and I found the lead guy annoying. (Yes, you're the immortal Sugimoto. We know.) Also, I'm not sure I'm interested in the story, it has a kind of "Jack London meets Western tropes" vibe that might be good but might be something I'm perhaps a bit too jaded for. I'll give it a few more episodes, but this season already has so many shows... (By the way... was that a wolf or a train?! What a weird howl. ) |

I liked both main characters in this show, brave and pragmatic Asirpa in particular, more than any of the characters in KOKKOKU.
I, like Enzo, look back fondly on the days when many series ran for two full cours, and some ran longer. One-cour shows became more common after the recession as skittish production committees limited their financial exposure by committing to only 11-13 episodes instead of 24-26.
