Given your last sentence, I don't know what to recommend, but the current series Amatsuki is a high-school-boy-goes-back-to-Edo type of show. I assume you've already seen shows like Junni Kokki or Noein, but I'll mention them just in case.

Oh! Edo Rocket is (obviously) set in the Edo period, but a couple of the characters are space aliens, and the show is full of anachronisms like TVs and blogs.

Some others would be...

I'll echo SeijiSensei with Juuni Kokki, although I'm pretty sure you have seen it.

Vision of Escaflowne - one of the classics, good fantasy with great music, plus some mecha

Kyou Kara Maou - boy gets flushed down the toilet to another world where he becomes the demon king. This is probably one of the longest running series, if you don't mind hints of shonen ai, this is pretty entertaining.

Fantastic Children - saying too much will be a spoiler, all will be revealed halfway tru the series

Tsubasa Chronicles - characters basically travel through different dimensions.

Fushigi Yuugi - another shoujo classic, girl gets transported to somewhere like ancient china whereshe becomes a miko

Harukanaru Toki no Naka de - resembles Fushigi Yuugi

It's a pretty mediocre anime though.
