The thing about how often variable fighters get shot down is that this is not a matter of how strong the fighter's armor is, is a matter of how the fighter's armor compares to the weapons fired at it. Since we can gather a rough idea about the armor strength from the crash, we can then apply that to meaning that the weapons fired at variable fighters is correspondingly powerful. If a unit were to be hit without the armor protection, then it would suffer even more catastrophic damage, and the pilot would be killed. Also note that, in most early VFs, the energy-converting armor only worked in battroid form.

Luckily it seems like it's confirmed that the Energy-converting armor is an advanced electric/charged armor(like the phase shift armor in Gundam SEED) |

Since we can see the actual forcefield, it's fairly obvious that it's an energy shield of some sort, and since we know that the pinpoint barrier is based off of the fold principles, we can make a few basic assumptions about it. However, why do you think this is important? What the heck difference does it make if it's a light-pressure defense (which doesn't make any sense) or a plasma wall (which also doesn't make any sense), or an electromagnetic field, or some sort of exotic energy field? Isn't it vastly more important to know what it does, and what it's limitations are?

Besides, stuff like calling it a field of plasma would make no sense whatsoever - all it really accomplishes is in making the designers look foolish.

We know a full shield overloading on the SDF-1 can wipe out an entire city if I remember correctly. However was that all the energy they were absorbing being reflected all at once, or was that a power grid overload more or less coverting matter in the surrounding area to energy? They did it twice that I recall. Once when they tried it the first time (they didn't mean for that to happen), and the second time on purpose.

The explosion that took out most of Zentradi fleet should mostly be caused by secondary explosions from the destruction of Boldolze's mothership, so the pinpoint barrier doesn't have much of a role to play here (except to protect Macross, of course ). Oh, and I forgot to address these points earlier: Quote:
They seem to be trying to recapture a lot of that kind of explanation again with Gundam 00, but it seems that they're just tossing around the word "quantum" and "GN" a lot. As actual explanations (or at least reasonable facsimilies thereof), they are very unimpressive.

Spoiler for Macross sizes:
Approximately this. For Battle Galaxy it is taller a bit by 9 mters. But I think that is negligeble considering the bulk appears to be at the Deck. Spoiler for Battle Galaxy, Battle 7, Battle 13 carrier modes:

Spoiler for Battle 7 and Battle 5 comparison:
Since Battle 5 and Battle 7 are of the earlier Battle class generation they are around similar proportions. While Battle Frontier and Battle Galaxy are the next generation of Battle class in similar proportions as well. So going by the numbers Battle Frontier and Battle Galaxy are longer in length by 171 meters, wider in width by 151 meters (Deck), and taller in attack mode by 9 meters. |

Major Update - The Zentradi Invasion! Today a Zentradi-themed update to the Macross Mecha Manual is complete and features 27 new profiles. The focus of this latest update is new Zentradi artwork as well as new Macross Chronicle trivia and numerous other corrections/revisions. A concerted effort was made in this update to improve the VF-25 Messiah profiles in the Macross Frontier section. The inclusion of revised color art, additional black and white line art, color code transformation guides and fighter schematics should elevate the VF-25 Messiah profiles to a level that equals the comprehensive format of the other hero Valkyries featured on the Macross Mecha Manual. As the many temporary Zentradi-themed banners and buttons would indicate, this update also features a major overhaul of many Zentradi vehicles and mecha. The special theme will draw attention to the newly colored Zentradi mecha and hopefully the improved art helps maintain the uniqueness of the Macross Mecha Manual. The many Zentradi-style graphics on the website will be featured for only a short while after which the Macross Mecha Manual will revert to its traditional appearance. Enjoy!
